Real estate commissions are typically split 4 ways to compensate all parties involved to sell your home. If a total of 6% commission is charged, for example, then 3% is split between the buyer's agent and that agent's firm. And, the other 3% is used to compensate the listing agent and their firm as well as to cover expenses associated with advertising the property.
